As you may be aware, the IRS is transitioning from its current Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) system to the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS) platform. This means you'll need to submit 1099-S filings in the new IRIS format, not the FIRE format, effective January 1, 2027.
What will this mean for the way you file 1099-S reports? Rest assured, SoftPro is already preparing for this transition. We’re actively developing a solution to support the new IRS requirements to help customers continue filing 1099-S forms efficiently and accurately.
Do you currently use Pro1099 in SoftPro for your filings?
If you already use Pro1099, the upcoming IRS change will not require you to move to a separate module. SoftPro’s upcoming solution will be incorporated into your current Pro1099 workflow at no additional cost to you.
You’ll have the option to submit your filings either manually (via CSV file) or electronically (via A2A) through the new solution.
Do you currently use another tool to file your 1099-S forms?
If you don’t currently use Pro1099, the IRS’s move to IRIS may be the perfect opportunity to reevaluate how your organization manages 1099-S reporting. Pro1099 is SoftPro’s solution to help simplify the preparation and submission of 1099-S forms.
With Pro1099, you can:
- Manage 1099-S records (including searching, reporting, viewing, adding, and deleting)
- Run exception reports to identify missing or erroneous information for reportable sellers.
- Import and export data to your Pro1099 management module.
- Submit filings either manually or electronically to the IRS.
Our new solution for meeting IRS IRIS requirements will be part of Pro1099, allowing you to manage the transition and continue filing 1099-S forms efficiently and accurately.
What action should you take now?
For now, no action is required. As the January 1, 2027 transition date approaches, SoftPro will continue developing its solution to meet these new requirements and provide additional information to help you prepare, including:
- Important dates
- Any required action items
- Training, resources, webinars, and guides
We look forward to providing you with a secure, easy-to-use solution for submitting your 1099-S filings in the new IRIS format.
