Comprehensive data privacy legislation has passed in New Jersey and New Mexico has adopted certain ALTA 2021 forms.
New Jersey
- On January 16, 2024, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed Senate Bill 332 into law after it had previously passed in the Senate by a vote of 21 to 14. The new law, which requires notification to consumers of collection and disclosure of personal data by certain entities, will go into full effect on January 15, 2025. New Jersey is now the 13th state to pass or enact comprehensive data privacy legislation, joining California, Oregon, Montana, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Iowa, Indiana, Tennessee, Virginia, Delaware, and Connecticut.
New Mexico
- On December 7th, 2023, New Mexico's Office of Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) issued a Final Order Amending Title Insurance Rules and Adopting Modern Title Insurance Forms. With this order, the updated ALTA 2021 Commitment, Owners Policy, Loan Policy, and certain endorsements have been promulgated. The new forms went into effect on January 1, 2024.
