More states pass emergency RON legislation due to COVID-19

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, more and more states are passing emergency legislation allowing for the use of Remote Online Notarization (RON) after many local and state governments issued "shelter in place" orders.

Where can I find ongoing updates on states that are enacting this legislation?

Both the American Land Title Association (ALTA) and the National Notary Association (NNA) have compiled active lists that are updated as new emergency or temporary RON legislation is passed for a particular state.

RON is an important tool in these uncertain times. It allows the notary and the signer to be in two different physical locations, giving people the ability to notarize documents right from the comfort of their home.

SoftPro published a two part e-book series on RON. Part 1 covers the basic digital technology terms and definitions for RON, as well as updates on states that have passed legislation for RON.

Part 2 of our RON e-book series dives deeper by indicating where you can access information on your state's requirements and regulations, how to contact the vendors that currently offer RON, and how to prepare your team to begin conducting RON closings.
